About Braces > Emergencies

Ulcers
Occasionally the braces can cause irritation to your cheeks, try using wax to stop the irritation, you will need to replace the wax regularly as it will become dislodged if you eat or drink. In most cases using wax for a day or two is all that is needed to stop the irritation.

We provide sample packs of wax when the braces are fitted. You can purchase wax from most pharmacies and Priceline.

If the irritation continues please call us to make an appointment so we can see if there is anything we can do to help alleviate the problem.

Long or Sharp Wires
Use the wax provided (or purchase some from your pharmacy or Priceline) to cover the irritated area. Call our office and arrange an appointment for Dr Coveney to assess the problem.

Broken & Loose Brackets
It is extremely rare for a bracket to be broken or loose. Brackets will only break if a patient has had a knock to the mouth or they are eating foods that are hard or sticky.

If a bracket become loose we need to know as soon as possible so that we can arrange an appointment to rebond the bracket. If a bracket falls off please keep it and bring it with you to your appointment.

Please call 5023 4307 and tell us about any problems so we can make an appointment as soon as possible otherwise you may damage your teeth or your treatment may take longer.
