An Upper Removable Appliance (URA) is used to provide a better relationship between the upper and lower jaws. Cooperation from the patient is essential for this appliance to work to its full capacity.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At first, your appliance will feel bulky in your mouth and will make speaking and eating more difficult. For the first couple of hours there will be more saliva in your mouth and swallowing will seem awkward.
The appliance is removable, but you should only remove it when you eat and clean your teeth and appliance (unless Dr Coveney instructs otherwise). You should also remove your appliance when swimming and playing sport.
Treatment will take about 6 months, although this can vary depending on the severity of your case. If you miss adjustment appointments or break the appliance your overall treatment time will be extended.
